Aim: to construct a health and safety assesment of one or more photo shoots i will be conducting for for my magazine considering all possible eventualities

Key Skills:
  • Professional responsibility
  • Applying my knowledge of professional practices
  • Showing forethought and evidence of planning an event
  • Using the opportunity to research independently for my individual situation
There is organisation that exists called the TUC (Trades Union Congress) www.tuc.org.uk/
www.worksmart.org.uk/

NUJ: The National Union of Journalists
www.nuj.org.uk/rights/health-and-safety/

  • Bullying
  • Stress
  • Repetitive Strain Injury
  • Public Order Situations
  • Conflict Zones
  • Exiled Journalists
What types of risks could there be in a photo shoot?

  • Being exposed to Asbestos material
  • Camera being a electric risk
  • Exploding camera
  • Lighting risks
  • Fire hazards
  • Tripping hazards
  • Light sensitivity

Risk: How great the chance will be for someone to get hurt

High

Medium

low

Hazard: Anything that can cause harm

1. Major:

2. Serious:

3. slight

Assessing the risks

Risk = severity of harm x likelihood of occurrence
This sum will give you a risk value between 1 and 9 allowing a comparison of risks
1 = high risk       9 = low risk

  1. Where is your improved and finished health and safety form?

Below are the comments from the first one I saw:

Whilst you are following procedure using this form effectively and offering ideas which are mostly appropriate, you are lacking detail. This document is rushed and incomplete. To improve, you need to prove real evidence of research in terms of official procedure in that location and using your initiative to find out more about current controls in place by that establishment. Don’t forget on your blog you also need to submit images of the location on the same post, so that you can illustrate what you’re discussing.
